Landsman Calls for Change in 2024 Presidential Campaign

CINCINNATI, OH — Today, Rep. Greg Landsman released the following statement regarding the 2024 presidential election: 

Last night, Donald Trump proved again that he is unfit to be president of the United States.

Most Americans are ready to move on from the politics of grievance, and they have deep and legitimate concerns that Mr. Trump will upend our democracy. 

Trump tried to overturn an election. He stole reproductive freedom from tens of millions of women and girls. He was found liable by a court for rape and was convicted on 34 felony counts. He gave trillions of dollars to billionaires at the expense of the rest of us.

It is absolutely clear that Donald Trump should not be running for President. While Trump’s ego would never have allowed him to step aside and do what’s right for the country, I have faith that President Biden will put our country first. 

I respect Joe Biden. He saved our democracy in 2020. He cares deeply about our country, he cares deeply about our democracy, he cares deeply about freedom, and he cares deeply about working people.

But the question we have before us is about the future of the country. We cannot allow Donald Trump and the rise of fascism and authoritarianism to take root in America. To allow Trump to become president and control all three branches of government puts our democracy and freedoms at great risk.

There is too much on the line, and we have to be able to make that case to the American people about the change we need and the country we all deserve. 

After weeks of consideration and hundreds of conversations with constituents, I have come to the conclusion that Joe Biden is no longer the best person to make that case. It is time for President Biden to step aside and allow us to nominate a new leader who can reliably and consistently make the case against Donald Trump and make the case for the future of America.
